Beauty is the truth reflected back to you.

What is beautiful? Beauty cannot be defined. It is dependent on your perspective.

Beauty will inspire you. It is often what we see as lacking in ourselves or our surroundings. Beauty can be recognized instantly, or be appreciated over time. It should never be denied.

Beauty will bring you things and opportunity in life, but it can also attract attention not desired.  Some covet beauty and want to possess it. We often destroy the things we love when we try to possess them. Beauty has much meaning and can lead to unwarranted respect. This can exaggerate one's pride.

You are beautiful.

I want you to remember to pursue and appreciate beauty, but never try to possess it. Make the most of what you have been given, and try not to compare yourself to others. Beauty will represent health and wellness to most, but be envied and reviled by others. You cannot concern yourself with what others consider beautiful. If you are honest, sincere, and passionate about who you are and what you do, your beauty will shine through.

Nice post. How would you actually define beauty? (I don't mean to ask for a dictionary definition- I'm wondering how you personally would define it)
Please keep the posts coming!

I can't define beauty. I just know when I see it, hear it, taste it, smell it, and especially feel it.

I have always appreciated beauty. Sometimes I recognize it in an instant. Sometimes it takes me a while.

It is a glimpse of the truth. Something scarce. Something missing in my life.

I hope that helps. I appreciate the question.

To the chef, beauty is achieving the ultimate taste. To the athlete, beauty may be victory.

Many may agree that something is beautiful, but that doesn't make it so. Beauty is not a state. It is a something to be appreciated in the moment.

I don't know... I have given it some though but I have yet to come up with a concise definition. My issue with the concept of "beauty" is that it is so expansive- I can't understand how the picture you posted of Lake Louise is "beautiful" in the same sense as you might call someone's personality "beautiful" or a work of writing as being intellectually "beautiful."

I don't know if this is because the word is overused and put in the wrong context, or if there's some common denominator between all of these that I'm just not seeing... Please feel free to give your thoughts on this! Keep the posts coming!

I understand. My perspective is that there is a common denominator. It is the Truth.

I also understand why you may not accept the photo as being beautiful. That is okay - even expected. It is not the most beautiful thing I have ever seen either. It just happens to be an environment I long for at this particular moment in time.

Some people can find beauty in truly horrific scenes. That too is okay. Perhaps they are missing that (horrible thing) in their life. Not likely, but certainly possible. It is not for me to judge what someone finds beautiful. This links to Art.

I agree that the word is misused and perhaps overused. So many are when we try to express ourselves with words. A greater concern (of mine) is how people use the words love and beauty interchangeably. I don't believe they are the same thing at all.

I don't know if I'll ever have the courage to try and tackle that concept in a post.

Thank you for helping me flush things out. As always, your perspective (and encouragement) means a lot to me.
